Loretta's EASY answers to tech questions.

Will FB ever start charging it's users?

Users are not charged for the use of FB because users are what FACEBOOK IS SELLING. Users are not charged because THEY are being sold to people that wish to advertise to users. Facebook has $3.07 Billion monthly ACTIVE users. Facebook is a billion dollar company because they charge advertisers to share their product or service with the FB audience. So no! They will never charge you. They want you to stay on their platform as long as possible.

How much do social media ads cost?

Social media ads vary in cost based on the audience that you would like to reach and how popular your ads is. Simply put ads that are boring and are rarely clicked on, cost more then ads that people love and click on all the time. This is called the pay per click ad system. Simply put, social media outlets that use the pay per click model (there are other models like pay per impression; which is just viewing it) want to charge based on the click. As a result of this, they wish to show ads that are clicked often driving the price of an ad down. Example: Two business want to advertise with a total budget of $100.00 Business "A" sells advice on how to prepare your taxes and Business "B" is selling tickets to a concert. More people (depending on the ad) are more likely to click on the ad for concert tickets. So concert tickets WIN and their ads are shown more often so they cost less per ad. Reminder: they both put up $100.00 for ads. Business A (the taxes) gets 10 ads for 10 dollars a piece because the clicks are low & Business B (the concert) gets 100 ads for 1 dollar a piece because people click on them a lot. There are other factors like location, audience, etc but this is how it basically works. A good consultant uses strategy to create a great ad and a great audience to get the best results possible for the client.
